Redefining Care for Complex Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Asheville, NC
Aether Interventional Psychiatry is a specialty practice dedicated to adults with mood and anxiety disorders across the spectrum—from those seeking their first thoughtful medication plan to those whose symptoms have not responded to multiple previous treatments. We provide both general outpatient medication management and advanced interventional options, including rTMS, ketamine-based therapies, and Spravato®. This allows us to offer accessible, stepwise care: beginning with careful diagnosis and medication management, and, when needed, progressing to additional evidence-based interventions in a single coordinated setting.
Who We Help
Many of the people who find us have:
Tried multiple medications with limited relief
Worked with therapists or prescribers and still feel stuck
Been told they have treatment-resistant depression or complex mood symptoms
Symptoms of PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, or anxiety layered on top of depression
We also work with adults who are just beginning to explore psychiatric treatment and want a careful, collaborative approach.
We specialize in the treatment of complex mood and anxiety disorders such as major depression, bipolar affective disorder, OCD, PTSD, and more. Our goal is to help you feel less trapped by your symptoms and more connected to your life.
What Is Interventional Psychiatry?
Interventional psychiatry focuses on treatments that go beyond standard medications and talk therapy. These include options like rTMS (Repetive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), ketamine treatments (IV/IM racemic ketamine and Spravato®), and other neuromodulation or medication-based interventions.
At Aether Interventional Psychiatry, we integrate these advanced treatments with thoughtful medication management and collaboration with your therapist. Our goal is not just to add more treatments, but to use interventional tools in a careful, evidence-based way for people whose symptoms have not responded to traditional approaches alone.
Comprehensive and Personalized Treatment Options
At Aether Interventional Psychiatry, treatment is never one-size-fits-all. We work with adults facing a wide range of mood and anxiety concerns—such as major depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and more—to design individualized care plans that fit their needs, history, and goals.
For some people, careful medication management and psychotherapy are enough. For others, these form the foundation for adding interventional treatments like rTMS, ketamine, or Spravato® when symptoms remain stubborn. Because we offer both, we can adjust the level of care over time without handing you off to a completely different clinic.
Medication Management
There is a significant shortage of psychiatric providers in our community, especially for patients who rely on insurance. We believe that high-quality, evidence-based medication management should be as accessible as possible.
We provide medication management for adults with both straightforward and complex mood and anxiety disorders. We take time to understand what you’ve already tried, what has and hasn’t helped, and what matters most to you. Treatment plans may involve:
Starting or adjusting medications
Gradual tapering when appropriate
Monitoring for side effects and benefits
Coordinating with your therapist or other providers
Considering interventional options if medications alone are not enough
We are in-network with most major insurers, including BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Optum/UnitedHealthcare, Cigna/Evernorth, WellCare, Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA Community Care Network, so that more people can access care.
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) :
The Only FDA-Cleared Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation for Treatment-Resistant Depression
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment for adults with depression that has not responded to standard medications. rTMS uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation, helping to restore healthier activity patterns.
Treatments are completed in our office. There is no anesthesia or recovery time, and most people return to their usual daily activities immediately after each session. rTMS can be a powerful option when traditional treatments alone haven’t been enough.
SPRAVATO®
The only FDA-approved ketamine treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression used as either monotherapy or in conjunction with an oral antidepressant.
As a REMS-certified Spravato® treatment center, we meet strict safety and monitoring requirements to deliver esketamine in a controlled setting. Spravato® targets NMDA receptors to support increased neuroplasticity and improved mood regulation, offering a different mechanism from traditional antidepressants.
Spravato® is typically used alongside psychotherapy, and we coordinate with your therapist and other providers whenever possible. If Spravato® is not the right fit, we can explore other options such as medical racemic ketamine, KAP, and rTMS—all available here at Aether Interventional Psychiatry.
Medical Racemic Ketamine (IV/IM)
Racemic ketamine is what most people think of when they hear “ketamine.” It is one of the most well-researched ketamine formulations used in mental health care.
At Aether Interventional Psychiatry, medical racemic ketamine is administered either by intramuscular injection or intravenously in a safe, controlled setting and may provide powerful symptom relief after a few sessions. Injections and infusions are given in-office, with each session lasting about 90 minutes including monitoring time. You’ll be in a calm, semi-private environment and closely monitored by our clinical team.
For individuals with difficult-to-treat mood and anxiety disorders such as major depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, and PTSD—especially when traditional treatments haven’t worked—medical racemic ketamine offers a powerful alternative.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
KAP combines the neurobiological effects of ketamine with the safety, structure, and depth of ongoing psychotherapy. During KAP, ketamine is used within a dedicated, one-on-one therapy process to support insight, emotional processing, and meaningful change.
KAP is distinct from our medical ketamine model. Medical ketamine is delivered in a monitored, multi-patient setting with supportive staff and brief integration, while KAP is a psychotherapy-centered service in which a therapist is with you one-on-one for the entire session—before, during, and after ketamine dosing.
Why Aether Interventional Psychiatry?
Focused on complex, difficult-to-treat cases – Interventional psychiatry and treatment-resistant mood disorders are at the core of what we do.
Integrated continuum of care – We provide general outpatient medication management and, when needed, interventional treatments such as rTMS, ketamine, Spravato®, and KAP, so care can evolve without starting over somewhere new.
Trauma-informed care – We pay attention to safety, pacing, and your overall lived experience, not just symptom checklists.
In-person first, with selective telepsychiatry – Based on the nature of interventional psychiatry, most of our patients are seen in person. Telepsychiatry may be available in certain circumstances, when clinically appropriate and permitted by regulations.
Experienced with PTSD and complex comorbidities – Our providers are experienced in treating PTSD and other trauma-related symptoms, which often overlap with depression and anxiety.

Most services are covered by insurance, though coverage varies by plan and treatment type. Medicaid does not cover TMS at this time. IV/IM ketamine and KAP are often self-pay services.
Our team will review your benefits, help clarify expected costs, and discuss options such as payment plans or sliding-scale fees for certain services when available.
For Providers
We welcome referrals from psychiatrists, primary care clinicians, and therapists who are seeking additional evidence-based options for their patients.
We provide interventional psychiatry services—including rTMS, medical racemic ketamine (IV/IM), Spravato®, KAP, and medication management—in a way that is designed to complement, not replace, existing therapeutic relationships. We communicate clearly, share concise updates, and encourage ongoing collaboration.
